FARMINGTON HILLS (AP) – A 10-year-old Detroit-area girl is suing to try to get her dog back from her mom’s former boyfriend.

Hannah Wise’s lawsuit claims Mitchell Rechter won’t return a poodle named Mystery since the girl and her mother moved out of his home last spring.

The Oakland Press says Hannah is the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed in Oakland County with the consent of her mother, Adrienne Lenhoff. The lawsuit says Rechter agreed to take care of the dog only while they got settled in a new home.

In response, Rechter’s attorney, Jonathan Jones, says the dog was abandoned by Hannah and her mom. He says Rechter is attached to the pet and wants to keep it.

Hannah is represented by attorney Robert Zawideh. A July trial is set.

U.S.

A Massachusetts woman died late Monday after she and her husband were hit by a pickup truck and the woman was dragged three miles to another town.

Police say the couple was hit about 10 p.m., outside of a motel where the two work in Wrentham, Mass. The truck continued down the highway until police stopped the vehicle and found the woman underneath it. Moses Acloque, 22, of Norwood, Mass., is being charged with leaving the scene of the accident and was expected to face a judge Tuesday, WCVB reports.

Authorities did not identify the deceased woman, pending notification of her family. Her husband suffered minor injuries.
